Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some common questions about our facility and the services we provide.

For detox admissions, clients must fill out an application, the application is reviewed within 24-48 hours, they will then be booked for an admission. Usually, we can get clients in within a day or two depending on bed availability. For treatment, the waitlist varies, could be up to 6 weeks depending on bed availability.     

No, all individuals must fill out an application prior to admission.

For detox you must hold a valid Saskatchewan Health Card and be 18 years or older. For the treatment program, you must have a treaty number and be 18 years or older.

Throughout the detox stay, medical staff are assessing and monitoring withdrawal symptoms. You may be provided with medications to support this process. During the day, short programs are held, focusing on a variety of topics (coping skills, relapse prevention, medicine wheel, etc.). There is also time set out in the day for recreational activities such as beading, crafts, reading, etc. During the evenings, there are usually in-house NA/AA meetings facilitated. Detox clients are provided with 3 meals a day as well as an afternoon and evening snack.

Every morning begins with a prayer, smudge and sharing circle. After this, several group sessions are held throughout the day, focusing on topics such as relapse prevention, anger, codependency, relationships, grief, medicine wheel, etc. Clients are also taken on a walk during the day. In the evenings, clients often attend meetings in Lloydminster or attend different community events. There is also time allotted for working on assignments, free time, crafts, and recreation. We have a volleyball net in the yard that individuals are free to use outside of programming. There are also visits for treatment clients on Sundays. There is also an opportunity for phone calls in the evenings as well a few times a week.

If applying for detox, you will be contacted shortly after for a bed date. When you arrive to the facility on your scheduled date and time, you will be greeted by our welcoming staff and will go through the admission process with our medical team.

If applying for treatment, you will be informed of approximate wait times upon completion of your application. For treatment applications, Ekweskeet requires a medical assessment to be completed by a physician or nurse prior to admission. Once you are notified that there is a bed available, you will get a scheduled intake date and time. Please prepare in advance and pack enough belongings for a 6-week stay. When you enter the facility, you will be greeted by our team and will be assessed by our medical team prior to beginning the treatment experience.
