Our Commitment to First Nations Healing

At Ekweskeet Detox and Healing Lodge, we are guided by the spirit and strength of our First Nations people. Our work is grounded in the belief that true healing happens when we reconnect with who we are — our culture, our land, and our traditions. Every part of our program reflects this commitment, blending traditional healing practices with modern approaches to recovery.

We believe that healing is more than overcoming addiction — it’s about restoring balance in the mind, body, spirit, and heart. Through prayer, smudge, ceremony, and teachings, we honour the wisdom of our Elders and the strength of our ancestors. These traditions help individuals rediscover their identity, build self-respect, and find belonging within their community.

We are guided by our values
  • Kindness to all living creatures
  • Love and respect without prejudice
  • Strength through pride and traditional beliefs
  • Living in honesty and truth

In the spring of 2024, Ekweskeet expanded its services by opening a Medically Supported Detox Program, supported by the Saskatchewan Health Authority. This addition allows individuals to safely begin their recovery journey with 24-hour nursing care and guidance from compassionate staff. The detox program complements our long-standing 6-week Residential Treatment Program, creating a full circle of care — from withdrawal management to long-term healing and aftercare.

For nearly four decades, Ekweskeet has remained guided by its values of kindness, honesty, respect, and strength through tradition. We are deeply rooted in our First Nations culture and are proud to integrate both contemporary therapies and traditional healing practices such as smudging, prayer, and ceremony. Our goal is not only to help individuals overcome addiction but to help them rediscover balance and purpose in life.

Our Story and Commitment to Healing

Ekweskeet Detox and Healing Lodge has been a place of hope and renewal for First Nations people since 1987. What began as a small treatment program has grown into a trusted healing center that blends traditional teachings with professional medical care. Over the years, our team has supported countless individuals and families on their journey to recovery, helping them reconnect with their spirit, culture, and community.

Located just southeast of Onion Lake Cree Nation, our lodge sits in a quiet and natural setting surrounded by the beauty of the prairies. This peaceful environment provides a sense of calm and reflection that supports healing in every way — physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. The land itself plays an important role in recovery, offering space to breathe, pray, and rebuild strength.
